What time do you share the lessons? It is Aug 3rd 4pm MST and I have not been able to access today’s lesson. So far I have been able to see them the morning.

This is a great project! I love this idea. And I LOVE master boards. They are such a fun way to have material ready to go!

    • Barb Smucker says:

Hi Robin, I agree that working on a master board is such a great way to get moving and enjoy creative discovery. I hope it leads you to some pieces that you will enjoy! Happy making.

another great lesson & introduction to an artist I was unfamiliar w/ & want to discover more about. I was confused by lesson 3 not being available on day 3 too & emailed Julie in distress. then I figured out the mash-up part & realized she was challenging us (yet again!). you are the best, Julie!

    • Barb Smucker says:

I’m so glad you enjoyed the lesson! Julie’s mash-up yesterday was really great – it’s so cool to see how we can take each other’s creativity and build on it for ourselves. So glad you were able to access all the good info!

Really enjoyed this lesson on collage – step by step instructions were helpful. Creating a viewfinder was another useful tip. Barb Smucker has been added to my list of artists to follow

Hi Joann, So glad you found the lesson helpful. Using a viewfinder does seem to open up some ways of discovering compositions. Sometime’s I use them just looking around the room, just to “see” what’s possible.

OMGosh! This was such a lovely class and so much potential for fun and gifting! LOVED it! Thanks so much!

  6. Susan Earl-Sevigny says:

EXCELLENT! Thank you for your ideas and artful thoughts!

  7. Sharyn Howard says:

This method of laying down pieces and then using a viewfinder is new to me. I can see it freeing me to do collage! Before, I’ve only felt stuck. This has been wonderful. The result is so classy. I can use this. Thank you for this lesson.

    • Barb Smucker says:

Hi Sharyn, I think you are going to find using a viewfinder will free you to do collage. It gets you thinking outside the box, and frees you to try things from the beginning without worrying about composition too much. Glad you liked the lesson.

Barbara – I am now obsessed with making collage squares and other types for these calendars. I have never gotten so many ideas from just one class. Thank you so much for sharing your talents and your art with us!

  12. ZiaMakes says:

I am not a huge fan of collage, generally, but between Barbara and Julie, it is growing on me! Great class!

That you so much for the clear instructions for creating this calendar. I’ll be making some for gifts!

  14. Deborah Wyscarver says:

Thanks so much for this awesome idea and process. I especially appreciate the process of laying down types of papers in layers. It gives me some structure that helps a lot. Bravo!

  15. Robyn Wells says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this tutorial! I made a calendar last year for a friend that was similar in size and style, but I made each piece of artwork individually and I love the idea of making a whole larger piece for a more cohesive look throughout. Definitely gonna try this out.

  16. suzamy_hansen says:

I love this lesson! I’m definitely making a few calendars for gifts this year. Beautiful.

Which side of the butcher paper do you work on? Mine (from Dick Blick) has a slightly glossy/waxy side and a matte side.

    • Jenn Alons says:

Update – I made my collages on the matte side which worked really well but I was unable to use mod podge to adhere the collages to the cardstock (it just peels right off because the backside is waxy). I purchased the butcher paper from Dick Blick using the link in the supplies above. Is there a better supplier for butcher paper which isn’t waxy on either side? Also, any recommendations on how to adhere my collages to the cardstock.?
