  1. While listening to the comments made about how the questions about whether someone is making a living as an artist were interpreted, I thought I would add my point of view.
If I heard someone ask the lady that was spoken of in the podcast who is both an artist & a chiropractor whether she makes a living an an artist, I would assume they were asking whether she had a “day job”, which technically she does as a chiropractor, although it sounds like she equally enjoyed both making art & being a chiropractor, which is rare.
I actually would not assume they were asking what kind of money she made as an artist. I do understand it can be a very personal & even emotional topic. A man I worked with used to own a successful restaurant which was a magnificent building in magnificent grounds in a lovely location. He showed me pictures on his phone. He lost this when he & his wife divorced. He also showed me pictures of the amazingly beautiful pictures he paints. I made the mistake of making a comment about how talented he was in his hobby. He was somewhat offended in that he retorted that it was not a hobby.
It seems it is a common misconception that if you have a “day job”, any artistic endeavours you pursue are a hobby.
